World 4 Tower
Step 1
An ever-rising pool of lava won’t give you much time to make decisions in this stage. Study the map and plan your route carefully to get the three star coins without being boiled.
Step 2
You will have time to safely reach the power-ups to the right if you jump from the edge of the fence, grab the goods, then jump from the ? blocks and onto the fence above them.
Step 3
The first star coin is behind the fence, and if you are on the wrong side you will need to jump to the gate above it. This takes valuable time, so plan ahead and reverse yourself at one of the gates along the way.
Step 4
After jumping off the moving platform to grab the star coin, position yourself at the left edge of the same platform and crouch under the ledge to return to the fences.
Step 5
If you try to get the red coins by jumping from the fences to the left or right of the coins, you will travel in an arc that will take you right over them. Instead, jump rom low on the fence that is to the right of the ring to get the first coin, then hit the other coin pairs by jumping into them from below.
World 4-4
Step 1
You can stomp on the heads of the Wigglers without taking damage, but you cannot harm them unless you use a Koopa shell. Don’t go out of your way to kill them when it isn’t necessary, though; they can come in handy as platforms that allow for slightly higher jumps.
Step 2
The highest red coins are just a little beyond Mario’s reach, but you can get them by bouncing off of the Wiggler that roams on the ledge beneath the ring.
Step 3
To get the first star coin, grab a Koopa shell on the ledge above it and kick the shell left. It will ricochet off the wall and take out the Wiggler on the ledge below.
Step 4
To get the second star coin, slide down the wall to the left and wall-jump to the pipe when you grab the coin. Hold the control pad left as you jump, or you will slide off of the pipe when you land.
Step 5
If you brought in a mini mushroom, you can use it to enter pipe C. Ride the Wiggler until it turns right, then fall off of its back and slip into the second pipe from the left to find a mega mushroom and plenty of pipes to smash.
Step 6
Jump onto the top Koopa Paratroopa and bounce straight up so you can stomp through the entire column of Koopa Paratroopas to nab a 1-Up. Don’t forget that you are over a bottomless pit – be sure to bounce to the right after hitting the last one.
