Learn everything you need to know for succeeding whilst playing multiplayer mode in Call of Duty…
Exo Suits
Every player in Multiplayer is armoured with an exoskeleton that grants superhuman strength and comes equipped with a set of boosters that allow rapid movement and map traversal. The Exo Suit grants you the ability to Boost Jump, as well as Boost Dodge on the ground, dash in the air and Boost Slide on the ground.
You can chain together Exo movement abilities in any order. For example, you can jump off a ledge, dash in mid-air, jump a second time, and then dash a second time. This rapid movement has massive implications for combat in Call of Duty. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that you begin practicing these movements the minute you get your feet wet in a Multiplayer match. The best players will master this new style of movement.
There are other changes, as well. What were once Tactical and Lethal Grenades are now Exo abilities and Exo Launcher Grenades. Your Exo Suit grants you abilities that give you a wide range of tactical combat options. Exo Launcher Grenades are more traditional explosive weapons, while non-Lethal Grenades provide tactical advantages and can be detonated in mid-air. You cannot manually detonate the Variable Grenade, which gives you four types of Tactical Grenades – Stun, EMP, Threat and Smoke.
Supply Drops
Now you can earn unique, special versions of weapons after a Multiplayer match. You can also acquire new cosmetic options to equip your soldier in Multiplayer matches.
You can earn some Supply Drop items by completing certain challenges, but the majority are simply awarded as you play Multiplayer matches. There are three tiers of Supply Drop loot – Enlisted, Professional and Elite. Each tier increases in rarity.
Note that while there are variant weapons (with unique skins, and some unique abilities), they are not strictly better weapons. Instead, they have slight attribute changes – typically a penalty in some stats and bonuses in others.
You are still free to use the weapons you prefer and thrive in competitive matches, but now you have the added excitement of earning unique loot after every match.
Reinforcements
A subset of Supply Drop loot, Reinforcements are special one-shot care packages that award you Perks or Scorestreaks during a fight. They aren’t permanent bonuses, but they can give you a nice early edge in a match.
Directed-Energy Weapons
One consequence of the near-future combat envisioned in Call of Duty is the deployment of directed-energy weapons to the battlefield – or as a layperson might say, laser rifles! DEWs have the benefit of not requiring ammo. They cannot run their battery dry, but they can overheat. However, you can manually vent heat by reloading.
Virtual Firing Range (VFR)
A great addition to the Multiplayer lobby, you can now instantly jump into a firing range between matches. Want to quickly test out a new weapon or an attachment combination? Hop in the VFR and take some shots.
Co-Op Scorestreaks
In addition to the return of Scorestreaks (instead of straight Killstreaks), there are some Scorestreaks that you can use in a co-op fashion. Certain streaks allow a teammate to join you in the active Scorestreak, often acting as a second gunner or target spotter. This is a great way for skilled players to let their newbie buddies experience powerful Scorestreaks, and then lay a two-person smackdown on the enemy team.
